Back to School Transition
A letter from Rachel Stanton, Lyme School Counselor

Hello Lyme Families!
We are excited to kick off our 2024-2025 school year!
As we all gear up, here are the top three tips to help ensure a smooth transition:
- Establish a Routine: It’s a good idea to begin adjusting your sleep schedule before school starts. This can be a process and it’s typical for kids and families to have responses to the big shifts from summer to school routines. Don’t be shocked, just try to stay consistent with wake up and bedtimes and things usually level out! This will surely help children ease back into their school routines. A predictable daily schedule reduces stress and supports better focus throughout the day and can be very helpful to families.
- Foster Open Communication: Encourage regular conversations with your child about their school experiences. Open communication helps address any worries or challenges early on, making it easier to find solutions together. Dinner time can be a great opportunity for family members to share about their day, which fosters that culture of communication. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns that we can help with should they arise.
- Promote Healthy Habits: Emphasize the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, hydration, and adequate rest. Try to limit screen time at least one hour before bed and keep phones charging overnight in spaces other than bedrooms. Healthy habits are crucial for both physical well-being and academic success, setting a strong foundation for the school year ahead.
We’re here to support our families every step of the way. If you need assistance or have concerns, please feel free to reach out to your children’s classroom teacher, advisor, or any student support team member at Lyme School.
Wishing you a successful and smooth start to the school year!
With gusto,
Rachel Stanton
