Do you want to meet more neighbors, help someone out, or work with friends on a community project?
Do you want to be inspired and even have fun?

We’ll help you find a volunteer opportunity that matches your interests, skills, and schedule.

Let us know how you’d like to help out – driving to an appointment or shopping, helping a neighbor with yard work, making a friendly call or visit, providing pet care, pitching in on a home or town maintenance project, or offering other types of personal or community assistance. We’ll point you to a community member in need or a partner organization that can provide a fulfilling volunteer experience. And we’ll make sure that the time commitment works for you. See below to learn more about some of the key roles and their time commitments.

Our leadership includes a board of directors, with officers and committees (personnel and fund administration), plus a growing list of ongoing program teams (including Lyme Food Pantry, Mental Health, Aging in Our Community, and the Neighbors’ Network), event teams (such as the Health & Wellness Fair, Lyme’s Day of Service, and community meals), and advisors offering strategic, technology, marketing, financial, and legal guidance. Perhaps you would like to gain experience in nonprofit management or pick up a new skill, like web design or social media. If you’re ready to get involved, there’s a role for you!

The spring Day of Service is a wonderful way to begin the month of May and give back to a community that gave so much to me when I was growing up. I really enjoy the opportunity to bring residents of all ages together in the name of service, and to meet new people as well as re-connect with people that knew me when I was young.

High Priority Volunteer Opportunities

Friendly Visitors
1-2 hours each week (or as you choose), depending on the number of connections and length of each conversation.

Make new friends or deepen relationships with those you have known. Call, Zoom, or visit in person with neighbors to brighten someone’s day and be lifted up yourself. Offer quick daily or weekly check-ins, engage in longer conversations, play a game together in person or online, perhaps meet for a meal. We’ll find a good fit for your interests and schedule!

Transportation Team
Occasional or regularly-scheduled. Time commitment for each ride varies.

Drive neighbors for medical appointments, shopping or errands, activities, shared meals or other social engagements. Requests may be direct or by referral, and they are shared with the Transportation Team as soon as they arise. Some community members have ongoing, predictable needs, and rides can be scheduled well in advance. As the Upper Valley has welcomed new neighbors from other countries, rides are needed while drivers’ licenses are being obtained (often a too-long process!) We do our best to fill every request. We ask for at least two days’ notice, and sometimes reach out for a more urgent need. Lend a hand when it’s convenient for you.

Handy Helpers
Occasional or regularly-scheduled

Odd jobs of all kinds: Yard and garden work. Snow removal. Moving boxes or furniture. Light home maintenance tasks. Be on the team to respond to requests as they arise, or share some regular hours when you’d be available to help, and we’ll connect you with someone who’d love your assistance.

Meal Makers & Bakers
Occasional or regularly-scheduled.

Food is love! Join the list of chefs, cooks, and bakers that help fill community bellies and hearts. Provide meals or special treats for neighbors. Bring light refreshments to gatherings. Contribute your favorite dish to a large community feast. Tell us what you most like to create in the kitchen or what you have made in abundance, and we’ll reach out when there’s an opportunity to share your best.

Errand Express
Occasional. Time commitment for each errand varies.

This team transports items, not people (though you can be on the Transportation Team too!) Pick up and deliver medications, food, or other necessities for a neighbor. Move furniture, boxes, medical equipment, or other items. Help CCL with a supply run if you’re out and about when a need arises. Sometimes there’s a request to transport items or hand-deliver paperwork further away (for example, to Concord, Manchester, or Boston.) We ask for two days’ notice, but sometimes reach out for a more urgent need. Run an errand when it fits your schedule.

Program & Event Aides
There are lots of roles! Occasional or regularly-scheduled tasks. Time commitment varies.

Help staff programs and events. Host pre-planned gatherings (like Aging in Our Community conversations, Galentine’s Day, or a community lunch). Join in or substitute on an ongoing team (like the Lyme Food Pantry crew or Neighborhood Captains). Share a skill or passion, through an educational program, a wellness service, or a community performance (like a drawing class, Reiki treatments, or a variety show number). Jump into event logistics (like set up, clean up, registration, parking, or food service). Promote opportunities (put up posters, tell friends, help with social media or other marketing).
