Thinking Ahead to Spring

Our Hour Zoom – March 2021

We shared with each other about spring including memories of spring, hopes we have for this spring, early signs we have seen that spring is near and poems about spring.

We shared “Lines Written In Early Spring” by William Wordsworth:

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And tis’ my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopped and played
Their thoughts I cannot measure:-
But the least motion which they made
It seemed a thrill of pleasure.

… and a special poem written by one of our Our Hour Friends, “Thunder Summer”.

We have fond memories of Spring:

  • Cold plunges in recently icy ponds
  • Preparing seedlings for spring gardening
  • Kayaking on the bursting rivers
  • Mud season!

We’ve been experiencing early signs of Spring:

  • Squirrels chasing each other up and down the tree
  • Longer days
  • Sunny days
  • Brighter sunshine
  • Boxelder bugs
  • Melting snow

We shared many hopes for the Spring springing all around us:

  • More sunshine
  • Pussy willows
  • Crocuses blooming
  • Green grass
  • Taking walks

As we’ve been celebrating a month of crafts, we talked about how we’ve kept our hands and hearts busy and considered sharing bird-themed pieces in the Beauty of Birds art exhibit:

  • Hooked rugs
  • Pottery
  • Homemade card
  • Jewelry
  • Puzzle

Spring also means Town Meeting and, like so many other things, the pandemic has made this year different. We talked about the active listserv discussions surrounding the important decisions for the school board and the entire community of Lyme. We are so appreciative of a town where we hear others’ opinions and can freely share our own. We look forward especially to more discussion in town about housing options.

This Sunday, March 14th, remember to spring your clocks ahead an hour! It will now be light an hour longer in the evening (and also dark later in the morning). The first day of Spring is March 20th!

Please enjoy the Spring and the Gifts of Nature.

Everyone is welcome to join us on the second Tuesday of each month from 10:30-11:30 for Our Hour.
