Independence Day Celebration 2017
Last Minute Details:
Just a reminder that the meal being served at the BBQ on Saturday is a GOOD OLD-FASHIONED PIG ROAST, with baked beans, coleslaw, breads/rolls, pickles, assorted beverages, and choice of dessert: “patriotic shortcake” which is strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream over diced pound cake or slices of watermelon. Adults $8.00, kids 4-10 $5.00 and those under 4 eat whatever they eat for free. OR BRING YOUR OWN PICNIC, if the BBQ meal doesn’t appeal. The whole point of the day is to gather together in fun, enjoy good food, however you choose to have it, and the observance of the holiday.
There will be assorted T-SHIRTS FOR SALE (Thank you Jill Simpson!) The shirts sell for $20 each. Any income realized from the meal sales and the shirts goes toward the 2018 festival.
Thanks in advance to all of the VOLUNTEERS! A lot has gone into planning this event, and there will be lots to do all through Saturday and into Sunday morning. If you’d like to pitch in … ask Patty Jenks, Sarah Crocket, or any organizer how you can help. (You will be able to tell who’s running around making all this happen!)
And finally, THE SHOW WILL GO ON, whatever the weather. The large tent has sides we’ll drop if we need to. The show goes on, so to speak. The dance will be relocated to the Congregational Church if the weather prohibits safe dancing on the Common. (Thank you, Lyme Congregational Church!)

Get ready for fun and fellowship on the Lyme Common, Saturday, July 1st!
We’re ready to celebrate Independence Day with a pig roast, a parade, and a country dance party!
Those Guys will start off the day with a COMMUNITY BREAKFAST at Lyme Congregational Church from 8:00am – 10:00am. The afternoon fun starts around 1:00pm with new and old-fashioned games for kids of all ages. A DUNK TANK will give kids an opportunity to test their ball-throwing skills while the LYME TOWN BAND plays music starting around 2:30. And again this year, the BILL ACKERLY MEMORIAL ICE CREAM GIVEAWAY!
At 4:00pm a PARADE will set off around the Common. Shine up your classic vehicle and line up along Market Street starting around 3:30 to participate. Right after the parade, a PATRIOTIC SING-ALONG AND RECITATIONS hosted by Bill Murphy will put us all in the spirit of celebrating our democracy. Jeff Snelling will have prepared the PIG ROAST all afternoon so that dinner can start at 5:30. Baked beans and salads, ice tea and lemonade. A GRAND SUMMER PICNIC including gluten free options! Adults $8.00, kids 4-10 $5.00, and those under 4 eat whatever they eat for free. You may pre-order tickets at the Lyme Town Clerk’s office. Payment may be made at the office or at the BBQ. Call 603-795-2535 or email patty@lymenh.gov.
And this year holds the special treat of a COUNTRY DANCE PARTY with caller David Millstone and local musicians Maia Rutman and Dan Freihofer. Come as you are for a contradance-style program that is sure to be fun for all.
Don’t miss this fun for all ages!
Patriotically yours,
The Lyme Independence Day Committee
