The ‘little’ town meeting will be held on the evening of Tuesday, March 6th, 2018, in the school gymnasium. This meeting serves to introduce topics and candidates to be voted on at the town meeting (see below). Typically, this is the best venue to learn about those running for office and to ask questions about town voting topics.
The annual school district meeting will be held at the school on Thursday, March 8th, 2018, starting at 6pm. This meeting will incorporate presentations, conversations and an opportunity for voting. Decisions made this evening will impact the school and the community. You must be present to vote on the school budget and any other warranted articles.
On Tuesday, March 13th, 2018, starting at 9am, the town meeting will be held in the school gymnasium. This meeting runs well into the day and provides an opportunity for discussion on the town’s budget as well as other town articles that require a floor vote. *Of very important note, town articles, other than those on the official (polling) ballot, will be discussed and voted upon throughout the day, article by article, with a ‘live’ floor vote which requires voters’ presence.
On this day, also in the school gym, polls for voting on official ballot items, town officers and school board members will be open from 7am to 7pm. Unless you have submitted an absentee ballot, this is the only day to vote at the polls on these official ballot items.
All of these processes are part of our town’s democracy. As well, these meetings will be your opportunity to more fully understand current issues and opportunities in our town and its school. If you have an opinion on matters in Lyme, then plan to be present and have a voice… or at least come with a good listening ear. The full diversity of our town’s voters should be well represented at these meetings as the decisions that are made there impact us all. Please contact the Lyme town offices if you need voter registration information.
Also of note, children are welcome to attend any of these meetings but parents should realize that the duration of the meetings can be challenging for some young ones. Childcare will be available by the school’s 8th graders during the school district meeting.
For future reference and to create recurring calendar events, the town meeting falls on the second Tuesday of March and the school district meeting falls on the second Thursday of March.
