Tuesday, April 12, at 7:00 pm, The Lyme Town Band will embark on its 5th decade as a performing group, marking 41 consecutive years of existence since it was brought back to life in 1981 by Earl and Bev Strout. Over those years, the band’s goal has been simple: enrich the community’s life by offering up high quality music and to enjoy each other’s company while doing so.
This is an open invitation to Lyme residents to drop by the Lyme School Gymnasium this coming Tuesday to see what we’re all about. We welcome musicians of all ages and abilities, and we don’t hold auditions.
The band is led by Mark D. Nelson who will be entering his seventh season as its music director. Under Mark’s skilled and enthusiastic leadership, the band has developed a wide ranging repertoire that includes patriotic songs and marches, show tunes, classic selections for wind band and occasional forgotten treasures Mark has unearthed from the band’s extensive music library.
Over the next six months the band will play a variety of events including parades, outdoor concerts and patriotic commemorations. We rehearse every Tuesday. Presently, due Covid-19 related concerns, we are requiring that all participants be fully vaccinated including a booster shot.
