ANTIGONE

by Jean Anoulih
presented by Thetford Academy Drama
November 21, 22, and 23
Based on Sophocles’ Greek tragedy, the play is about a woman torn between doing what she believes is right and her own existence. When her brother dies during civil war, Antigone is determined to bury him despite the order from King Creon, her own uncle, that anyone who attempts to bury Polynices will be put to death.  Anoulih’s version of the Greek legend comes from 1940’s Paris that suffered under tyranny, yet over 75 years later, the play’s theme of moral ambiguity remains especially relevant.
ANTIGONE will be performed at 7:00 p.m. in the Martha Jane Rich Theater.  Seats are $5 at the door.
