CCL Weekly Update – 9/25/2021

Health & wellness, fundraising, history, music, and a gorgeous day!

What a Saturday in Lyme! And what a lot of preparing on the part of SO many. It was a true demonstration of community. We have a BIG thank you ahead, to all of the participants and attendees at the Lyme Health & Wellness Fair – lots of Lymies, and many individuals and organizations from across the region, coming together for one special event. There is a lot to share!

Since we are a couple of days delayed on our update, we are keeping it short and sweet to let it all sink in, to say thanks for being you and being here, and to get you a few notes about events coming up this week.

Wishing you a week filled with gratitude and space to find a little peace.

With Love, Martha

News and Notes:

September is National Preparedness Month

Lyme preparedness resources were well-represented at the Lyme Health & Wellness Fair!

The Lyme Emergency Operations team offered great resources, “go bags”,  and hands-on training to help us all be as prepared for emergencies we may encounter or experience directly. Keep on the lookout for more to come, as we prepare for winter.

Lyme Parish Nurse, Kathy Watson, encouraged completion of POLST (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment) forms, an important aspect of advance care planning, to ensure that medical decisions are consistent with your wishes, should you be unable to speak for yourself.

Caldwell Law shared information about building a life plan, to take care of your assets and your health. They highlighted the Dementia Directive, a valuable component of an advance healthcare directive.

National Preparedness Month (NPM) is an observance by the US government’s Ready campaign, to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. The 2021 theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.” Each week this month, we’ll share Ready.gov’s tips on a different aspect of preparedness for individuals, families and communities.

Week 4, Teach Youth about Preparedness
Talk to your kids about preparing for emergencies and what to do in case you are separated. Reassure them by providing information about how they can get involved.

  • Review your family emergency communications plan with kids at your next household meeting.
  • Need tips for talking to your kids about natural disasters? Visit www.ready.gov/kids/parents
  • Many Americans aren’t familiar with their child’s school evacuation & reunification plans. Are you?
  • Kids can become Disaster Masters with this @Readygov preparedness game
  • Get involved in Teen CERT. Find opportunities by learning about Teen CERT online.
  • Your community needs YOU! Find opportunities to help your community here. In Lyme, contact the emergency operations team at EOC@lymenh.gov.

Wellness Wednesday. This week, Shelby encouraged everyone to join in one or more of the hands-on demonstrations of ways to get or stay healthy, at the Lyme Health & Wellness Fair. Click here to read the post. Thanks to all who got out there and tried something new or helped one of the generous instructors by showing how it’s done. See all Wellness Wednesday posts here
