CCL Weekly Update – 8/14/2020
August days are a favorite …
The early foggy (comparative) coolness that morphs into classic heat and summer fun … I remember the August of my 16th birthday when a special friend left me a huge box full of balloons and treats in the driveway the early morning of my birthday. The fog burned off slowly that morning, and the “grand reveal” was so much fun! That was a long time ago and I remember it with great fondness and appreciation for the simple, creative way he remembered my special day and our friendship.
There are so many simple, loving ways we can say we care, and that we are thinking of each other. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture (although sparkle is good ?.)
If the spoken or unspoken message is “I’m thinking about you, I care that you’re OK, or I want you to know I’m here for you”, it’s a really good thing.
In these days of angst, our normalcy challenged by the Covid standoff, it’s easy to lose sight of the simple gestures. We can’t even see the smile anymore ?. Sometimes it’s a trick figuring out what the eyes are saying to us.
Great examples of Lyme taking care of the community are the recent Select Board resolution to wear face masks in Lyme, the beautiful flowers shared by the Allen Family, the delicious baked goods contributed to the Pantry by talented bakers, as well as the hand sanitizers donated by Kingland Farm, the tremendous response when the Parish Nurses asked for medical equipment donations, the hundreds of handmade masks donated to everyone in town as needed, our many meals programs where food is available to anyone needing a break from cooking during stressful times, and safe, cool spaces available during the hottest days.
These are but a few of the creative, genuine ways that this community cares for one another. And so, a heartfelt thank you to everyone showing the love and to all who claim Lyme as their place.
We are so happy and fortunate to have you as our friend.

Mine’s for You, Yours is for Me … Let’s keep the virus out of Lyme and stay safe for school (and so much more we’re eager to get back to normal.) Weatherize … for a warmer winter AND a cooler summer.
NOW is the time! The Lyme Energy Committee and NH Saves offer a free webinar on Monday, August 17 at noon. Learn how to schedule a home energy audit and get professional help with air sealing and insulation upgrades before winter strikes again. There are increased rebates available now for work completed by November. More news coming soon about “Button Up” workshops and special rebates and grants for Lyme residents who weatherize their homes.

More and more is opening up for us to enjoy – both out “in the world” and from home. As you start getting out and about, please be thoughtful about how to keep yourself and others safe and healthy. Wear a mask when you are in public. Continue to keep a safe distance. Stay home if you are sick at all. Check out the growing listing of events on the Lyme Events Calendar online. Lyme Historians Barn Open* open 10am-1pm. One-way through the newly renovated barn, with exhibits, plus maps and booklets for the Lyme schoolhouses self-guided tour.

Weatherize Online Info Session, noon. New rebates available for work completed by November 15th. If you can’t make this session, register to view the recorded webinar at your convenience.

Willing Hands Produce and Food Pantry Package Pick-up*, 1pm at the Lyme Food Pantry Lyme School drive up. We will also deliver. Please pre-order at 795-0603 or help@cclyme.org.
Lyme Sound Off against Covid!, 7pm.
- Wednesday (8/19):
Grab & Go Curbside Take Out Meals*, 12-12:30pm at the Upper Valley Senior Center. All Welcome. $3 suggested cost per meal.
- Thursday (8/20):
Pre-ordered Food Package Pick-up* 3pm at the Lyme Food Pantry Lyme School drive up. We will also deliver. Please pre-order at 795-0603 or help@cclyme.org.
Pardon My Garden at the Lyme Inn. 1-5pm Special this week on Thursday.

Fairlee’s Free Food Friday Produce Shelf,* 10-11am (or as long as it lasts) on the Fairlee Town Common.

Norwich Farmers Market* open 9am-1pm.
Lyme Historians Barn OPEN* open 10am-1pm. A safe, one-way trip through the barn to see the recent upgrades.
- Sunday (8/16):
Lyme Historians – Chesley School House OPEN* open 3pm-5pm.
