CCL Weekly Update – 5/22/2020

We’re only six months from Thanksgiving. Let’s start early….

  • We are so thankful for the kind and generous people who have recognized what this pandemic could do to each of us personally, and in their own way and ability, taken steps to help.  This includes friends, family members and many, many volunteers, as well as organizations who have created special programming to support our well-being with safe, online resources and virtual gatherings. Check out some options on the Lyme Events Calendar.
  • We are so thankful for the compliance that people in Lyme have shown for the restrictions and directives … even though they may have varied opinions about the situation. The efforts make a difference. As things begin to open up a little, please see the latest safety directive from Lyme’s Emergency Management Director.
  • We are thankful for the folks who remember similar situations that have happened before and truly understand the significance of working together to get through this one. We can always learn from those who have seen it before.
  • We are immensely thankful for the small businesses in and around our town who struggle to survive during the best of times, and who continue the struggle to provide safe and convenient service to the rest of us so we don’t have to deal with the worries of big-store changes and risks. Let’s enjoy convenient service and fine local food from our neighbors’ businesses whenever we can.
  • Mother Nature, thank YOU. It’s going to be a beautiful weekend. There is lots to do outside. Please enjoy the sun and stay safe. See the Town of Lyme post about safely (and respectfully) using Chase Beach. If your plan includes New Hampshire hiking, please review this safety guidance. Thanks, Jim Mason for sharing.
  • This Memorial Day weekend and every day, your friends and family at CommunityCare of Lyme join you in honoring, with gratitude, the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Social distancing may prevent our gathering as we have in the past to formally share a profound remembrance together, but nothing can prevent our personal prayers of thanks for the freedom we have that is so precious, regardless of the present day restrictions.

Chief O’Keefe had a lovely idea of sharing poems and words of remembrance on the Lyme list throughout the weekend. I have already added some thoughts in a separate post. I hope that you will add your own words, or simply be inspired and comforted by others’. CCL will capture the inspirations and share them on the CCL website News & Notes section.

Remembering these and many other reasons to be grateful, let’s each take a minute to regroup and take a breath, and to consider how remarkably we have dealt with the changes in our daily life. Changes that will likely continue for a while longer and that will continue to be frustrating and tedious. Hang in there. We got this.

I hope you’ve been enjoying this long-overdue beautiful weather and that the holiday weekend is safe and enjoyable for you.

Love, Patty
