CCL Weekly Update – 10/30/2020

This is our time … to make our voices heard, to listen to and respect one another in these highly-charged final days before all votes are in, and to give HUGE thanks to our election team. Lyme’s team includes the town clerk’s office’s small staff, putting in countless hours, plus over 30 volunteers. They are committed to making sure we can vote safely and easily, and that every vote counts.
Polls are open at the Lyme Community Gymnasium at the Lyme School 7am-7pm on Tuesday, November 3rd.
If you’ve decided to vote by absentee ballot, you must return your ballot before 5pm on November 3rd. You may hand-deliver your ballot to the Town Office until 5pm on Monday the 2nd or, under new COVID-19 response procedures, to the polls by 5pm on Tuesday. Please get it in as soon as possible to help smooth out the workload and simplify the ballot tracking process.

A Covid Halloween.
If you haven’t already, please read the Halloween guidance and some ideas for safe fun, from Chief O’Keefe. In Lyme and across the Upper Valley there are fun and safe ways to celebrate Halloween this weekend.
There’s still time (until 5pm today) to participate in the Lyme 7th Grade’s Pumpkin Carving contest. It’s a wonderful, safe community celebration of Halloween AND a fundraiser for their 2021 class trip to DC. With your donation of any amount you may pick up a pumpkin if you need one at the school or 78 North Thetford Road. Let the judges know you’ll put your masterpiece out where they can see it when they drive by. Sign up on the shared Google doc here or email Sarah Crocket. You can donate by writing a check to the Lyme School with ‘7th Grade’ in the memo field (leave the check in the container on the pumpkin stand in front of the school).

There are also Halloween drive-by meals to enjoy: Chicken Pot Pie in Hanover Center (Reservation Required) and Soup & Chowder in Fairlee.
These are exciting, heavy, full, and challenging times. We’re here with you as you look out for your neighbors and pay attention to your own health and happiness. Reach out when you or someone you care about needs a hand. We partner with organizations and generous individuals to connect you with just the right resources and opportunities to get involved: Rides, deliveries or errands. Groceries or meals. Help around home. A little help problem-solving. You name it.

The Lyme Food Pantry is open on Tuesday, Election Day.
At 1pm, all are welcome to our “Farmers Market” display of Willing Hands produce. You can order a food package at 795-0603, or stop by. We can pack a box while you wait. If Tuesday timing is a problem for you, give us a call. We’re working on plans for special support during the holidays and safe distribution of food as the weather turns cold. Your ideas and requests are most welcome!

Over 35 participants from across the Upper Valley joined Tim in these informative, interactive sessions about planning for our futures – clarifying what we want to happen, and choosing and preparing those who will help us implement our plans. We all learned something! We look forward to more conversations with experts in topics that matter right now.

Grab & Go Curbside Take Out Meals*, 12-12:30pm at the Upper Valley Senior Center in Lebanon. All Welcome. No age limit. $3 suggested cost per meal.

Grab & Go Lunch in Orford*, noon at the Orford Senior Center at Orford Congregational Church. Come park in the parking lot, and wait in your car. Your meal(s) will be delivered to you!

Fairlee’s Free Food Friday,* 10:15-10:45am, drive by the south side of the Fairlee Town Hall. This is a new route, to continue through the winter.

? Lyme Tree Festival. Planning is underway for this annual event, led by Pat Pippin and The Utility Club of Lyme. Join in the fun of contributing to this special Lyme event. There will be lots of ways to help: sponsor a tree, decorate a tree with our ornaments or yours, deliver posters, help with traffic, make a gingerbread house, bake cookies or quick breads for our bake sale that day … more fun opportunities to come.
