April Update

Committed to promoting conversation and improving access to information and resources as we live and age together.

Our March discussion over lunch helped us think about Planning Our Best Future. Renee Harvey of Caldwell Law shared her experience, including some useful tips for each of us in our own lives. Read about the discussion and find Renee’s presentation slides here.

April is a great month to lean into life planning, with Healthcare Decisions Day coming up on April 16th. A few ways to learn more or roll up your sleeves and make some plans:

  • Thursdays in April, Useful Tools for Life Planning 4-week course, by Zoom. There are a few slots left. Click the link for details and to register.
  • Wednesday, 4/5 10am – Advance Directive Workshop by Pemi-Baker Home & Hospice at the Orford Senior Center
  • Contact the Lyme Parish Nurses, any time, at 603-796-2850 x 3.

At April’s discussion over lunch, April 18th at noon in the CCL Living Room, Meet the ARC – Lori Fortini will discuss the amazing array of resources, programs, and activities available through Dartmouth’s Aging Resource Center. This will be a chance to share what matters most to us and learn how Lori and her team, plus many partnering presenters can help. There are programs and activities in person and in Zoom, and the ARC team is available by phone or in person. Our time with Lori will be useful to everyone who knows someone in Lyme, the Upper Valley, or further away who may be experiencing affects of aging. Please let us know if you’ll join in. Email us or call 603-795-0603. Join us! If you need a ride, just call.

In partnership with the Aging Resource Center, CCL will be streaming selected ARC Zoom programs in the CCL Living Room (of course with refreshments!). More to come.

The Orford Senior Center – Lyme’s senior center – hosts a growing set of services, including rides, meals, and special events. We’re delighted that OSC Coordinator, Jessica Musone, is keeping Lyme informed through the Listserv. Go to the OSC Website for the April newsletter  menus, activities, and more. Contact Jessica Musone at jmusone@gcscc.org or 603-353-9107, for reservations or questions.

AARP Tax Aide offers free tax preparation for seniors and low income tax payers, at the Upper Valley Senior Center at 10 Campbell Street, in Lebanon on Tuesdays, through April 11. Tax aides will help process simple tax returns only; no returns with business, property management or large investments. Don’t wait to call  for an appointment: 603-448-4213. Appointment times fill up quickly.

NH State Commission on Aging’s Newsletter, Aging Matters has a lot of terrific stories and information, including a lead story on the value of volunteerism and the 3rd article in a series highlighting what other NH communities are doing to make where they live more livable for people of all ages. Almost 10 years into CommunityCare of Lyme, it’s uplifting to see things that look familiar and also to  learn from others’ great work! We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Age Positive Culture: A Public Health Imperative – Tri State Learning Collaborative on Aging Virtual Annual Summit April 25 & 27, 8:45am-12:45pm. Save those dates! We’ll share more as this event gets closer.
