A 5-10 Minute Refresh/Reset Retreat

Submitted by Jill Gray, Remedy Yoga at DeLeon Day Spa Wellness Center

5-10 minute refresh/reset retreat:

Welcome to the present moment. Sit tall and pause for a minute. Notice your breath: how it feels, how it sounds, and connect your inhale and exhale like a thread. You might close your eyes to have a clearer view of your internal landscape, your physical body. Notice as you continue to explore your breath: What is present in your body? Adjust to become more comfortable, while maintaining length and vigor in your spine. Remind your mind to be soft, your face to be soft. Take in any sounds that you may hear. Relax away judgment.  After sitting quietly and listening to your breath for a few moments, see how you feel.

After a long movement class, during a guided meditation, I had an “ah ha” moment.  It had dawned on me that through Yoga, I was becoming more of my true self. The self that is compassionate, non-judgmental and free. I began the yoga practice wanting to touch my toes. Instead I walked the path of self discovery finding the joy we carry through gratitude and service. I found that it was my mission to share this ancient practice of healing and wellbeing. That if I wasn’t to share it there may be a disservice. If I could offer Yoga and in any way, share a glimmer of the strength and connection I had gained through practice I would be doing “good”.

Yoga has wonderful health and wellness benefits that include: strengthening and toning the physical body; easing, and focusing the mind; helping us feel united in our communities and relationships. The ancient practice of Yoga derived from India about 7 thousand years is now being taught mainstream for its myriad of health benefits.  Traditional Yoga is much more than moving. It is a code on how to live, and thrive, as a human navigating the path of life. We utilize the postures to align our physical bodies to enhance strength, confidence and intuition. We meditate to realign the mind and train it to be more receptive, more resilient, and more open. Yoga on a scientific level has physiological impacts.  It helps relieve and replenish our nervous system, through participating and observing our breath.
