Get to Know Dartmouth’s Aging Resource Center

EDITED to include notes from the April 18th gathering
Of course, we are all aging. While most of us recognize lots to look forward to, there are reasonable concerns about how our lives will evolve, and some of us have significant current challenges to our wellbeing. At any point we can make choices about how to live our lives – how to care for ourselves and those around us. One good life choice, whether we consider ourselves to be aging or not, is to learn about the resources available to us … and to neighbors and loved ones. That can be a daunting task, because there are so many resources out there and so many ways we may seek help, information, ideas, or opportunities to stay meaningfully involved. One of CommunityCare of Lyme’s founding aims is to be a conduit to resources you need, when you need them. This week we lift up one of our most trusted sources:
Meet Dartmouth’s Aging Resource Center (ARC)
Dartmouth’s Aging Resource Center is an extraordinary community resource, serving older people, families, and anyone who reaches out with information, education, and support for greater wellbeing throughout life. It’s part of Dartmouth’s Geriatric Center of Excellence. The Aging Resource Center is near the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center campus in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and provides both in-person and virtual programs, events, and support groups, plus a great team to answer questions, offer guidance, and lots of direct support.
Lori Fortini, Program leader of the Aging Resource Center, is a wonderful collaborator, extremely knowledgeable about a wide range of topics … and a very good listener. She and the ARC team will help get you connected to just what you’re looking for. Some of the many areas of programming and support:
Arts • Mind and spirit • Technology • Dementia • Advance care planning • Bereavement • Caregiver support • Falls prevention • Chronic disease self-management
CommunityCare of Lyme hosted a warm conversation with Lori Fortini
Lori led an interactive tour of all there is to offer and share how to make most of the many opportunities. It’s an extraordinary (healthy, educational, heartwarming, fun … important) range of programs, resources, and activities!

This detailed overview is useful for anyone who’s impacted by issues of aging, including individuals with specific or general concerns about their changing lives, as well as caregivers, adult children, or neighbors.

Also, let us know if you have suggestions or ideas about future topics for conversations over lunch or evening Zoom gatherings.
Every Wednesday, CommunityCare of Lyme lifts up a wellness topic, embracing the widest possible definition of individual and community well-being. We include local and national resources, individual and group programs and practices, and personal stories, videos, or songs that have something to teach us all. We are always seeking guest contributors!
If you have a wellness-themed topic you would like to share or learn more about, please reach out to shelby@cclyme.org
