CCL Weekly Update – 6/13/20
The future is brighter today
We are grateful to so many of you for responding with encouragement to continue the conversation we dipped our toes into with last week’s update … a conversation about working together for a world where everyone has every opportunity to live their best life. We invite you to reach out to us and to your neighbors, to share your thoughts and hopes and fears, to listen and to learn. This is just the beginning. And speaking of “just the beginning” …
On this Saturday morning that started so bright, it seems so good to be thinking about all the kids that have graduated from their respective schools. Despite the restrictions for our collective protection, schools, parents, graduates, and communities have come up with creative and fun ways to recognize and enjoy this important milestone in their lives: from a drive-in movie theater venue (thank goodness we still have one to enjoy!) to parades in cool old cars, plus powerful recorded ceremonies, and, of course, lots of Zooming.
This has been an opportunity to really share the experience in ways no one else has done in the past. It will remain a forever memory, teaching the importance of creativity and working together as a whole to have the things in life that matter to them. And we can all learn from that.
There is much to be thankful for, as this quite extraordinary school year comes to a close. Most of us saw and experienced the camaraderie and above-and-beyond efforts of Jeff Valence and the entire staff; the multi-tasking, suddenly home-schooling parents and babysitting grandparents; community members who volunteered and donated computers, supplies, and food; our police and fire teams spreading love and joy, as they also kept us safe. Really, wow. To get a feeling how the school family felt about it all, take a look at this lovely video, created by Thomas Chapin, the Lyme School music teacher.
Let’s breathe all this in. We’ll ride on that wind in our sails as we venture together into some uncertain waters, toward what we believe can be a beautiful place for us all.

“Pardon My Garden” at Stephanie Reininger’s Home 6pm. Lyme Gardeners host weekly, safe opportunities to view special gardens in Lyme and nearby towns.

- Saturday (6/20):
Norwich Farmers Market* open 9am-1pm.
